Maple Syrup And A Movie

Have you ever seen the movie Julie and Julia? If not, see it! I saw it about a month ago and realized it had come out way back in 2009. Where have I been? Amy Adams is in it and well, that’s it. Enough said. Don’t even get me started on Enchanted. Okay, so if you haven’t seen the movie, here is the short synopsis –

Frustrated with a soul-killing job, New Yorker Julie Powell (Amy Adams) embarks on a daring project: she vows to prepare all 524 recipes in Julia Childs’ landmark cookbook, “Mastering the Art of French Cooking.” Intertwined with Julie’s story is the true tale of how Julia Child (Meryl Streep) herself conquered French cuisine with passion, fearlessness, and plenty of butter.

It’s based on 2 true stories (I feel like that should be a tongue twister), has a fantastic cast, and is an all around great movie.

So, trying to fall asleep last night, I get this idea. I want to do something similar to the movie, but with baking instead of cooking. I can cook. I just don’t enjoy it. I would do laundry and dishes all the live long day if it meant I didn’t have to cook. So thankful my hubby is a whiz in the kitchen! To stay sane (for my family’s sake), I will aim for 3 recipes per week baking the nearly 300 recipes in Maida Heatter’s Book of Great Desserts. Maida sounds like a hoot. She used to carry her brownies, individually wrapped in cellophane, around in her purse to hand out. I imagine she had lots of friends! Oh, and for the kicker – I’m subbing out the sugar for maple syrup. That’s right, maple syrup in every. single. recipe. Why mess with perfection, you ask? Well, I want to try something a little different and see what happens (plus we LOVE maple syrup.). Oh, and did I mention I’m not a baker? It’s going to be a real interesting adventure over here! Stay tuned, first recipe coming soon!
